Interactive Calculator Tutorial

🟨 The 'SHIFT' Button

Pressing SHIFT accesses the yellow/golden functions printed directly above the calculator buttons.

Example: Pressing SHIFT and then x² gives you the Cube Root (³√).

🟥 The 'ALPHA' Button

Pressing ALPHA accesses the red letters and functions printed above the buttons. Mostly used for saving specific numbers to memory slots like A, B, X, or Y.

➗ Fractions Button [ ■ / □ ]

Always use the fraction button instead of the standard divide (÷) button when typing out complex algebraic equations. It ensures the calculator follows BIDMAS perfectly.

🔄 The 'S⇔D' Button

Changes your answers between Exact Form (Fractions or Surds) and Decimals. Always leave your answers in exact form (like 1⁄3) unless the exam question explicitly asks for decimals or significant figures!

🧠 The 'ANS' Button

Stores the exact value of your very last calculation. Use this in multi-step equations instead of re-typing long decimals. It prevents you from losing marks due to rounding errors mid-calculation.

📐 Degrees Mode (CRITICAL)

Check the top of your screen! For GCSE exams, you must see a little D or Deg indicator. If you see an 'R' (Radians), your trigonometry answers will be completely wrong!

(To reset a Casio: Shift ➔ 9 ➔ 3 ➔ = ➔ =)

🚀 Standard Form [ x10ˣ ]

Use the dedicated x10ˣ (or EXP) button at the bottom of your calculator instead of typing out "times ten to the power of". It prevents bracket formatting errors when dividing large numbers!
